Moog Mural

I was commissioned to design and paint a mural in Moog’s new studio building, to be used for showcasing/ demoing/ recording tons of their previous instruments. The mural is downstairs from the studio where visiting artists will be able to lounge and perform from time to time.

I’ve been a fan of Moog since I was in high school, as I loved otherworldly/ unconventional sounds of bands like the Fiery Furnaces, the Locust, Stereolab, etc. Moog’s ethos was always one of experimentation, and embracing making music as a journey without a destination. In this mural, I wanted to incorporate the hallmark primary colors of their patch cables, the utilitarian design of their products, and many imagined forms in between.

The resulting concept ended up feeling like a “mental sound studio”, consisting of things you’d expect in an interior, melded with occasional psychedelic mirages and forms. At the end of this project, I began talking with Moog about incorporating these visuals into a merch collection, which developed into its own awesome project, which you can view here!
