Twin Peaks “Unfamiliar Sun”

Being a Chicagoan, and synonymously a fan of Twin Peaks (the band), I was psyched to illustrate and direct a video for "Unfamiliar Sun" from their 2019 album Lookout Low

Jack and I were first drawn to using projected images because they helped play off of the abstract, internal content in the song. "Unfamiliar Sun" brought to mind the passing of the sun each day, our changing world, and all the images it contains. Inevitably we drew a comparison to the individual and the memories we each hold onto. Once we started filming and pairing colors and images with people, it felt a lot like you were in some kind of cerebral space in each scene. I turned the “orbs” by hand on the chorus and we did a lot of improvising, which is always the best.

Also, it was my first time “directing” a music video (or anything for that matter), so it was a unique and wonderful experience. Especially to have Weird Life Films at the technical/ production helm. Hope you enjoy.. check out Twin Peaks on tour near you!
